The Asian Development Bank - Japan Scholarship Program

Who is eligible?
Citizens of developing member countries of the Bank (see olarship_program.shtml#sel”>list and selection criteria below) who have a minimum of two years’ working experience and who are eligible for admission to the following degree programs at the University of Sydney:

• Master of Economics
• Master of Commerce
• Master of International Business
• Master of Transport Management
• Master of International Public Health
• Master of Engineering

Please note, applicants living or working outside their home country are not eligible for this scholarship. Also, no applicant will be allowed to apply for the ADB-JSP scholarship more than two times.

Conditions
To be considered for an ADB-JSP scholarship you must:
• Lodge a separate application for admission to one of the above degrees using a University of Sydney application form, as well as completing the ADB-JSP application form.
• Have an undergraduate degree from a recognized university with above average grades (eg GPA of 3 out of 4 or First Class Pass or First Class Honours.
• Have a four year Engineering degree with above average grades from a recognized university, if applying for the Master of Engineering.
• Provide evidence of two years work experience and the latest income tax return (an official letter from an employer may be accepted in cases where an income tax return is not available).
The University of Sydney Application Processing Fee (APF) will be waived if you lodge your ADB-JSP application form together with your admission to the University application form.
Your ADB-JSP application will only be considered, if you receive an official offer of admission to one of the above degree programs prior to the ADB-JSP application deadline. If your entry is subject to English language proficiency or academic documention, you must provide all required documents before the ADB-JSP scholarship deadline.

Application closing date for courses starting in July 2010 is 30 November 2009.

Benefits
Each scholarship covers full tuition fees, an allowance for books and instructional materials, a monthly living allowance, medical insurance and travel expenses. For scholars engaged in research, a special grant may be applied to assist in field work and thesis preparation. In special circumstances, computer literacy, preparatory language and other similar courses may be covered under the scholarship.

Selection criteria
• Qualifications of the candidate.
• Applicants with less than two years of work experience will not be selected.
• Preference to women candidates.
• Preference to applicants with lesser financial capacity.
• The Program will, in principle, not support applicants who have previously studied abroad.
• The Program will, in principle, not support applicants who are pursuing a second master’s degree or a second doctorate degree.
• Candidates who are applying in a participating academic institution in their own country may not be selected.
• Diversification of nationality in the overall Program as well as at each participating academic institution will be considered.
Duration of scholarship
The scholarship period is one year. An appropriate extension for the second or third year of study is conditional on the scholar’s maintaining a satisfactory level of performance determined by the University of Sydney and following approval by the ADB.
Total number of scholarships
Scholarships are awarded, each year, as vacancies arise following completion of studies or withdrawal of scholars. Less than three ADB-JSP scholarships may be awarded in each round of application.

Competition for an ADB-JSP scholarship is extremely strong. Only candidates who receive an unconditional offer of admission will be considered for the ADB-JSP scholarship.

A Top Achiever Doctoral Scholarship provides support for 36 months of study. While this may involve part or full-time study, it is expected that most scholarships will support students engaged in full-time study. The funds included in the scholarship are:

* an annual stipend of $25,000 (an overseas loading will be applied where the scholarship is undertaken in a country other than New Zealand)
* conference attendance to a maximum of $3,000 (GST included) per annum
* relocation costs for overseas students (these costs will be deducted from the funds provided for conference attendance)
* medical insurance (if the scholarship is undertaken overseas and the insurance is justified)
* the annual course fee required by the host tertiary education provider.

The final application deadline for 2008 Top Achiever Doctoral Scholarships is:

The aims of the Top Achiever Doctoral Scholarships are to:

* signal the value of high-level intellectual skills and abilities and their importance to New Zealand's future
* give doctoral scholars the choice of studying in New Zealand or at overseas universities
* increase the supply of highly trained researchers and highly skilled graduates by supporting the top 10 percent of doctoral candidates.

Changes to eligibility

The Top Achiever Doctoral Scholarship is currently open to student applicants with the appropriate grades (minimum A to A+) for their prerequisite degree or equivalent. From 2007 onwards, this minimum eligible grade was raised to 87 instead of 85. This grade will not be negotiable.

2009-2010 Academic Year - Community College Summit Initiative Program

AMINEF is pleased to announce the availability of Fulbright scholarships to study in the United States for the 2009 – 2010 academic year.
The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State is pleased to announce the Community College Summit Initiative Program.

The Community College Summit Initiative Program will provide funding for round-trip airfare to the U.S.; a living allowance during English language, academic, and practical training program components; tuition costs; a health benefit plan; and cultural enhancement activities. Students will be hosted in groups by community colleges competitively selected to participate in the program. Programs may be one or two years in duration and may result in either a certificate or an Associate Degree. Students are required to return home at the end of their program and may not transfer to a four-year U.S. academic institution.

Eligible fields:
1. Agriculture
2. Applied Engineering
3. Business Management and Administration; Health Professions, including Nursing; Information Technology; Media; and Tourism and Hospitality Management.

To apply to the program, candidates must:
• Have completed a secondary school education;
• Have relevant work experience in the field in which they are applying;
• Have English language skills that provide a basis for enrolling in academic coursework following approximately 8 weeks of intensive English language study in the U.S.; and
• Submit a complete application (original one and two copies).
• Have an Institutional or Prediction TOEFL score of 500 or equivalent.

Applicants with Bachelor’s degrees are only eligible if they are applying in a field different from the field of their degree. Applicants with MA or PhD degrees are not eligible to participate.

The Fulbright Commission in Indonesia, the American Indonesian Exchange Foundation (AMINEF) is responsible for advertising the program and for recruiting and nominating candidates for further consideration. Educational experts in the U.S. will make selection and placement decisions for the approval of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

FULBRIGHT PROGRAMS FOR 2009 - 2010 STUDY YEAR AMERICAN INDONESIAN EXCHANGE FOUNDATION (AMINEF)

Complete FULBRIGHT American Indonesian Exchange Foundation Scholarships 2009 - 2010

The American Indonesian Exchange Foundation (AMINEF) annually offers Fulbright scholarships to study in the United States. The primary focus of the Fulbright Program in Indonesia is to promote mutual understanding between the Republic of Indonesia and the United States of America through educational exchange and academic scholarship. Fulbright scholarships are available to Indonesian citizens with the appropriate qualifications as stipulated in the program descriptions listed below.

General Requirements for All Programs :
•Leadership qualities
•A good understanding of Indonesian and international cultures
•A demonstrated commitment to the chosen field of study
•A willingness to return to Indonesia upon completion of the Fulbright program.

Important Required Testing Information
Degree student candidates must take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE for all fields except Law and Business) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT for business administration, finance, accounting) if they are selected. It is recommended that applicants begin to familiarize themselves with the above test.

Fulbright Student Program Alumni
Fulbright student program alumni are not eligible to apply to get a second student grant.

MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMS

Preference will be given to applicants who serve as faculty members of state or private institutions of higher education in Indonesia. However, all qualified individuals are eligible to apply.

•A minimum TOEFL score of 550

Fulbright-Freeport Master’s Degree Program
Preference will be given to Indonesian citizens from Papua who are faculty members at state or private institutions of higher education.
Applicants will possess:
•Sarjana (S1) degree with a minimum GPA of 3.00 (4.00 scale)
•A demonstrated commitment to the development and service of Papua
•A minimum TOEFL score of 500

Ph.D. PROGRAM
Fulbright Presidential Scholarship Program (Ph.D. Program)
This open competition is for applicants who serve or plan to serve as faculty members of state or private institutions of higher education in Indonesia.
Applicants will possess:
•Master’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale)
•A determination to take up academic positions in higher education upon their return
•A minimum TOEFL score of 575. A score of 550 will be considered for certain fields

RESEARCH PROGRAM
Fulbright Doctoral Dissertation Research Program
This research grant is intended to provide U.S. research opportunities to Indonesian university doctoral candidates who are in the final stages of writing their dissertation. The grant duration is for a period of three to six months. Applicants should have a minimum TOEFL score of 575 to participate in this program.
